Waste Not Want Not (WNWN) is an innovative concept that has been a true Community Partnership in Hillston (Carrathool Shire). Due to the large volume of food wastage, WNWN was developed in order to save produce (which was deemed unmarketable due to minor factors such as weight and colour) to send to Foodbank, Sydney. From here it is then distributed to 500 NSW Charities which run soup kitchens or distribute the food to people requiring assistance. Due to its success, WNWN decided to expand to Leeton. The initiative will encourage interaction between the Schools, Businesses and Community. Students in particular will be exposed to a variety of local industries, mentoring by business people, and will get an overall understanding of the logistics involved, all the while giving something to community through volunteering and working with WNWN.
