The 2011 LYNKS Program has once again proved very popular with over 140 students expressing an interest in the program during the student information meetings that took place at all four schools. After the two student meetings and the Parent/Student Information Evenings held in Leeton and Narrandera numbers still exceeded the 100 positions on offer.
The next stepping stone was for the students to attend two intensive and compulsory Work Readiness days held at Leeton Soldiers Club and TAFE NSW Riverina Narrandera Campus. The days included employer forums, resumes workshops, What Employers Expect, OH & S, personal presentation and hygiene, telephone techniques, mock interviews and more.
One week after the training days 90 students attended their interview, the final hurdle to earn a place in the program for 2011. 39 interviewers made up the panels of 3 in 13 interview rooms at Leeton High School. From 7pm through to 8.15pm students went through 15 minute interviews each where they had to present their porfolios containing their resumes and other documents. There were plenty of nerves and lots of excitement and a sense of achievement when the students walked from their interviews feeling very proud.
The following day and week brought the most excitement, as the students were notified of their success and where they would be hosted for their LYNKS work placement. All the students were very happy and it is a very rewarding experience for the LYNKS staff to witness the enthusiasm.
All the student paperwork has now been returned which is a credit to their organisational skills, so now they are set the enter the world of work every Tuesday or Wednesday during terms 2 and 3. The LYNKS staff are very proud of the students thus far and look forward to visiting them in the workplace.
A BIG THANK YOU!!!! to our host employers who have so much faith in this amazing program. LYNKS has been sustained over the past 15 years due to their generosity and that of the community as a whole.
GOOD LUCK! LYNKS participants 2011.
